Innovation in Resilience: spring steel SH springs from TEVEMA

Durability and performance: design and manufacture of compression, tension, and torsion springs for intensive use and high stress resistance.

Spring steel is covered by the following standards:

  • ASTM A228
  • AMS 5112
  • SAE J403
  • QQ-W-470
  • DIN 2076 17223 Grade D
  • BS 5216 Type M
  • JIS G3522 SWP-A/ SWP-B.

It is made of steel with manganese, silicon, and a high content of carbon, which makes the steel stronger and harder.

Spring steel SH is one of the most robust and widely used materials for small springs; it is an outstanding spring material for a wide range of high-stress applications.

Spring steel SH offers:

  • High tensile strength
  • High ductility
  • Moderately low thermal conductivity
  • Excellent fatigue life
  • Versatility Affordability
  • Sustainability

Spring steel SH is cold drawn (usually to diameters ranging from 0.008 to 0.250 inches) and is round, rectangular, or square in shape. The wire is typically cold-formed, fabricated, and/or coiled into springs.

Music wire gets its name from one of its most popular uses, piano strings. Metal wire has been used to make musical instruments since the 1350s. Initially, iron was used to manufacture music wire. When the piano became popular around 1800, manufacturers began using steel to make music wire; steel was stronger and provided greater string tension.

Applications of Spring steel SH springs

TEVEMA supplies high-quality, high-performance music wire springs in various thicknesses (from 0.008 to 0.375 inches in diameter) and tensile strengths for use in a wide range of applications, including:

Motors Controllers Valves Pipe Hangers Links Spring clips Small aircraft landing gear Springs subjected to high stresses or requiring good fatigue properties. Springs that are repeatedly loaded, stretched, and relaxed (e.g., springs for windows to allow opening and closing).

Music wire springs are not recommended for use in temperatures above 250 degrees Fahrenheit (121 degrees Celsius). Also, like all carbon steel, music wire is not corrosion resistant; however, music wire can be purchased with a phosphate or zinc/galvanic coating if the spring is exposed to slightly corrosive environments. There are also options for electroplating the spring if it must operate in an open or corrosive environment.
